The 2010 edition is a refinement to the major improvements made in the 2009 edition. It reflects the removal of some continuous distributions that are no longer listed in the learning objectives for the exam, and expands coverage on conditional variance. All practice exams are composed of completely original questions.
The ACTEX study manual contains 10 modules, all with examples and practice problems at the end of each module, all with detailed solutions to help the student solidify understanding of the material. In total, the manual contains 140 examples and 260 practice problems. It contains comprehensive review notes and illustrative examples for each of the topics covered on the exam:
Probability and Combinatorics
Discrete and Continuous Random Variables and Distributions
Expectation and Parameters
Transformations
Risk Management Concepts
It also includes a review of the prerequisite algebra and calculus material.
The manual concludes with 8 Comprehensive Review Tests with 30 original questions each, also with detailed solutions to provide timed exam preparation practice.
"I cannot understate the value of Broverman's ACTEX Study Manual as a means to prepare for the first of the rigorous actuarial exams, and for that, you have my unbounded gratitude. I do certainly hope to eventually use ACTEX's many other products!" -- Phillip Quach, P/1 Student
"For a career changer like me, I appreciate Section 0: Review of Algebra and Calculus, and Section 10: Risk Management Concepts. The study manual is very explicit and representative of the syllabus and the eight practice exams at the end are for me, a passport to success." -- Zouzou bi Yoro Olivier, P/1 Student
"Overall, I have found this manual to be excellent. After completing each section's practice problems, I feel I have a thorough understanding of the material." -- Heather McCluggage, Exam P/1 Student
"The topic that I found the most explanatory was Section 6: discrete distributions. It gave me a great insight on how to approach the problems and the problems that I faced on the exam were quite similar to the ones in the manual. The only thing I know is that if you use this manual in detail, you will pass. I know I did." -- Shyam Singh, Successful P/1 Exam Student
"Overall an invaluable resource for studying for the exam. I recently received a score of 10/10 and could not have done so well without a study guide like this one. I will definitely be coming back to ACTEX for future exams." -- Tyler Coghlan, Exam P/1 Student
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for creating the Exam P Study Manual. It's by far the best study manual I have used, combining depth with conciseness. Many thanks. --Albert Chiwara, Exam P Student
The ACTEX Guide was very useful. Since it has a lot of tough problems, it pushed me to study harder. The practice tests at the end of the guide were very useful too. -- S. Baskaran, Exam P Student
I must say that it is the best discussion of Bayes' Theorem I have ever read. -- Navneet Chana, Exam P Student
