ACTEX eLearning Presents:
ACTEX eLearning Webinar:
Thinking Outside the Strike Zone: Predictive Analytics and Baseball
Inning 2 - Our second presentation in the "Thinking Outside the Strike Zone" series!
1.2 SOA CPD, CAS CE Credits/Training Hours
While some may prefer to keep work and play separate, others have found ways to apply their actuarial skills and knowledge to the hobbies they enjoy most. John Dewan will present an exciting and informative webinar on how he applies his knowledge of predictive analytics to the sport he loves most, baseball.
This webinar is John’s second webinar with ACTEX where he will explain, in detail, the process of developing player performance projections. John will thoroughly explain this extensive task by explaining what data is chosen and used, and how predictive analytics is applied. As John will explain, the techniques used in his work change every year based on a variety of variables.
In addition, John will also cover:
- Specific examples of the applications of data mining and actuarial science to baseball
- Areas of overlap between actuarial science and sports analytics
- How you can get involved in the growing industries of sabermetrics and sports analytics
Who Should Sign Up?
Anyone interested in learning more about how predictive analytics is applied to baseball.
Twenty-five years ago, just five years after receiving his Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries, John Dewan left a highly successful career as an insurance actuary to pursue a life-long dream, the development of the most timely and comprehensive computer database in sports. This became STATS, Inc., a sports statistics company that was eventually sold to Rupert Murdoch and FOX News for 45 million dollars. John is the author of four volumes of The Fielding Bible and the owner of Baseball Info Solutions, which provides analytical services to 22 of Major League Baseball’s 30 teams.
